Each day is often made up of events. Some things that we look forward to and others we don't. You may look forward to waking up in the mornings and having your cup of tea. You may not look forward to going to work every day. You may look forward to picking your children up from school, spending time with a pet or meeting up with friends for dinner but you may not look forward to coming home to a stack of errands and chores. You may look forward to the weekdays passing and the weekend to be here. Sometimes we wait for whole weeks to pass because we feel like we have nothing to look forward to happening.
When you think about it, it's very easy to fall into a trap of letting moments pass us by as we are simply waiting for the better aspects of everyday life to come.
Living like this is wasting time, wasting time where you could have been happy but instead felt mundane and average. Which may be a better way to feel than horrendous and upset, but feeling mundane and 'average' isn't really living is it?
By learning to appreciate even the things you may not look forward to in your day, you are becoming a more grateful person and in turn a happier person.
Think about it. Just because you may not enjoy going to work each day, does not mean you have to resent it. Think about how lucky you are, that you have a job and are healthy enough to work. So, dirty dishes and cleaning, now somethings are a little harder to enjoy in your day or looking forward to doing. However, think about the bigger picture. Be thankful that you had food to eat to put on the dishes. Cleaning is an absolute pain, it's easy to think of all the things you'd rather be doing, however just think aren't I lucky that I even have a home to clean?'
So there you go, trying to at least appreciate the tasks we may not look forward to can spin a negative event into something positive. Understanding that it is necessary and a result of something positive can help us come to terms with the everyday 'average' things. It's all about perspective, by looking forward to the parts of the day that you may not usually enjoy, your seeing the good in every day.
Actively create something for you to look forward to. Amongst all the everyday events, the ones you enjoy and the one's you don't, it's good to have something coming your way that you can enjoy and really, truly look forward to. As well as looking forward to every day, everybody should be able to look at their calendar and have a few things scheduled that they can get super excited about.
That's where self-care comes into play. It's important to take care of yourself, for your own mental and physical well-being. Allowing yourself a little me time not only is something positive to look forward to but also a great excuse to practice some self-care.
